I want to replace your word 'writing' with 'farming' and then, when I'm done. come back and reinstate 'writing' again. The collective is surely more fascinating than the individual, every time? How has the cult of the individual (farmer, grower, writer, artist) even become the norm?

I wonder if writing itself is the main culprit in championing the rise of the individual.

But the longing for community has never, I think, diminished within us. It’s merely been eclipsed by the illusion of the genius working in solitude.
